In this article we analyze six archaeological flutes from the Diaguita culture belonging to the collections of the Museum of Limarí, in Ovalle. The sample includes two stone ‘vertical flutes’, two stone ‘elbow flutes’, a white stone ‘antara’ and a ceramic ‘globular flute’. The study consists of three parts: a formal analysis of the pieces, where I describe their characteristics and their possible methods of construction; an organological analysis, where, with the help of three baile chino musicians, I discuss their acoustic design and possible execution systems; and, finally, a cultural analysis, where I interpret them within the social contexts of the time.

En este artículo analizamos seis flautas arqueológicas de la cultura diaguita pertenecientes a las colecciones del Museo del Limarí, en Ovalle. El conjunto incluye dos flautas verticales de piedra, dos flautas acodadas del mismo material, una antara de piedra blanca y una flauta globular de cerámica. El estudio se compone de tres partes: un análisis formal de las piezas, donde describo sus características y posibles métodos de confección; un análisis organológico, donde, con la ayuda de tres ejecutantes de bailes chinos, examino su diseño acústico y posibles sistemas de ejecución; y, por último, un análisis cultural, donde las interpreto dentro de los contextos sociales de la época.
