This text analyses a set of documents belonging to the Ministry of Justice Fund of the National Administration Archive, almost all of them dated 1976. Most of them are secret or reserved letters between ministries, especially between the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior, as well as other agencies such as SENDET (National Service for Detainees), Gendarmerie, Supreme Court of Justice, Civil Registry, etc. Based on this material, we examine, first, the operations of the repressive bureaucracy at its highest level (the level of the ministers of state), in terms of a “machinery” that operates efficiently and rapidly. Secondly, on the basis of the documents, an approach to political imprisonment, torture, forced disappearance, as well as resistance inside the prison is presented.

En el presente texto se analiza un conjunto de documentos pertenecientes al Fondo Ministerio de Justicia del Archivo Nacional de la Administración, casi todos fechados en 1976. En su mayoría, se trata de oficios secretos o reservados entre reparticiones de dicha cartera, aunque también se incluyen comunicaciones emanadas de otras reparticiones, como el Servicio Nacional de Detenidos, Gendarmería, la Corte Suprema de Justicia, el Registro Civil, etc. A partir de este material, se examina, en primer lugar, el funcionamiento de la burocracia represiva en su más alto nivel (el de los ministros de Estado), en términos de una maquinaria que opera eficiente y rápidamente. En segundo lugar, se presenta una aproximación a lo que fue la prisión política, la tortura y la desaparición forzada, así como también la resistencia al interior de la prisión.
